About

Rebecca-Sophia Strong is the author and visionary behind Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us. She is a trained psychotherapist in private practice and an independent Playwright/Screenwriter and practitioner of various media arts. Chosen for her visionary script & artistic excellence in bringing the arts & sciences into one unifying story, Rebecca Sophia has a lifetime of dedicated creative work at the intersection of education, performance, media art, and science. As a response to a “crisis of meaning” in young people due to racism, climate change and a loss of a sense of belonging, along with Cosmogenesis, Strong created a 15- part, non-formal science curriculum and a one-woman show teaching the 13.8-billion-year scientific story as a message of hope and inspiration. Nominated for the MacArthur Fellowship, Rebecca Sophia is a TEDx speaker and has worked with Ithaca College, University of Minneapolis Minnesota, the WILD Foundation, University of Colorado Boulder’s Environmental Center and Fiske Planetarium sharing the message of Cosmogenesis. When not creating, you will find her  hiking in the mountains, swimming in the Mediterranean Sea with friends,  dancing barefoot, caring for her  92-pound Golden Retriever Lumi-Bear, or sharing cooking with fresh thyme, basil, oregano, ginger and garlic.

My Personal Statement

The production of Cosmogenesis seamlessly aligns with my professional plans and growth, as it represents a pivotal step in both my artistic and academic journey. This project is the foundation for my broader aspiration to have Cosmogenesis produced at planetaria across the nation and internationally, expanding its reach and impact as a model for integrating science, humanities, and immersive media. The work not only serves as a creative outlet but also informs my proposed doctoral research, contributing to my goal of completing my PhD centered at the intersection of art, science, critical media, and social impact.

By further developing the curriculum I wrote based on the material and themes of Cosmogenesis, I aim to create a lasting contribution to both academic scholarship, creativity, and public discourse; fostering a deeper understanding of human experience within a cosmological context and inspire critical reflection on belonging, identity, mental health, wellbeing, climate stories, and cosmology. This project will serve as a cornerstone for my future academic and creative endeavors, helping to shape my professional trajectory while making a meaningful contribution to knowledge, 21-century creative works, scholarship, and society.
